Family Ranch Getaway

The Family Ranch Getaway will be hosted at the Box R Ranch in 2025. The ranch is a centurion ranch with all the rustic, western charm a family could ask for when spending a week unplugged in a remote, beautiful place. A chance for families to connect with God, each other, and other Catholic families from around the country.

Mass and confession will be offered daily; along with other opportunities to enjoy time with the Lord as a family. There will also be opportunities for fellowship with other Catholic families throughout the week.

While there, you will enjoy delicious family style meals, comfortable and quaint accommodations, and the opportunity to participate in Western activities, such as horseback riding, archery, rock climbing, packrafting or canoeing, hiking and more.

This week is designed to be the perfect blend of a family vacation and family retreat. Families have ample time throughout the day to do outdoor activities on their own with input or instruction from the COR staff, and then rejoin other families in the evening to participate in the sacraments and a fun mix of evening activities (including family reunion-style games as well as some spiritual talks and discussions.) We have specifically designed this week to promote family togetherness and create activities and an environment that the whole family can enjoy; we do not provide childcare as part of this experience. To preserve the wilderness experience, our accommodations are rustic, and the location is remote. We strive to provide an excellent customer service experience (with delicious food, accommodating staff, and a welcoming environment) that helps you relax and take advantage of this beautiful opportunity to step away from daily life and into a Western family adventure!

Activities & Programs

A Family Ranch Getaway provides a variety of family-centered adventures including horseback riding, rock climbing, packrafting or canoeing, fishing, hiking, and archery. When you arrive at the Ranch, our staff will help you create a schedule for your stay based on your family’s interests and your children’s ages and abilities.

In addition to the daytime activities, each evening you’ll be invited to join in community events such as a sing-along around the campfire, a conversation night for the parents while the kids play games with the staff, or an old-fashioned country porch party complete with line dancing.

Although the Family Getaway is not a retreat, it is intended to be an opportunity for your family to be fed spiritually. Mass, Confession, rosary walks, and other opportunities to experience the spiritual life as a family will be available daily.

Meals & Accommodations

All meals are included! Home cooked, family-friendly meals are served daily.

During the Getaway, your family will stay in one of several cabins on the property. Each cabin is unique and they vary in size and capacity. Lodging will be assigned based upon the number of people in your family so as to best accommodate all families in attendance.

  • "The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. We were outdoors every day. And the community was filled with joy. We are inspired to get back to work building a Catholic community at home that is as beautiful as what I saw in just five short days at a ranch with a bunch of strangers."

    –Ranch Guest, 2023

  • "We were so grateful to be surrounded by such a beautiful setting. Our family had time to both pray and play together. The staff of students are such wonderful role models, and we loved learning about each of their stories. The rosary around the bonfire was such a beautiful way to end each day. We feel grateful to have learned about COR and this wonderful experience."

    –Tahnee

  • "As a family with young children, life can be exhausting at times. The refreshment God gave through a week at the Hawkeye was exactly what our souls needed."
